Teaching

After amePLM (and a little during) I got some serious teaching experience. Teaching half of 2 MSc Modules (Business Intelligence and Analytics; Management Information Systems, Theory to Practice) both in semester two of 2014/2015. They both needed to be created from scratch. I took the Business Intelligence part of the first with a colleague doing the analytics. In MIS we took them through the development lifecycle and taught them DFDs, rich pictures etc in a well worn path for myself albeit at a higher level of involvement in curriculum development.
A very interesting experience. I have since done a 4 day set of workshops about teaching and learning and can turn this into a qualification with HEFCE by doing 1/2 a day more and an assessment report based on changing something in my teaching (3000 words). I hope to do this and continue teaching.

amePLM

Through redeployment I got a job on the EC project amePLM. looking at decision support (for groups). Worked with Bart MacCarthy in OMIS at The Business School at Nottingham (across the road from NGB where I was for 6 months. Wrote a GDSS in LAMP (PHP, MySql) etc. Very nice though I say it myself. Certainly looks like there is scope for further work. Decisions are under researched in terms of how they fit with processes and how they are recorded and how they affect one another. There also might be a social software element because decision making using Facebook would not be great for businesses, but social concepts seem very apt for these contexts.
Still trying to publish the paper from the PhD, now looks like being two papers, one on defining regions and another on the relationship with region names and other placenames, especially in terms of size (possible research question "can we find the size of a region from co-occurrences in web pages?").

I interviewed for a RA (not postdoc) position, seemed to go well. More like a conversation than an interview, which is always a good sign.

UCLAN Lecturship

Failed to get this. Feedback was encouraging. Basically I pitched my presentation (nominally to first year students) at too high a level. Also my teaching experience was not enough.

Applied for a temporary job, 20 hours delivery with driving. Might be quite enjoyable with all the walking. Was ready for the incompatibility of their test and Linux this time with my revived windows PC.
